Four days of build-up. Six hours of party. The site stood empty again the same evening.

On Saturday 18 July, Schleith GmbH Baugesellschaft held its family summer party here. 1,100 guests, around 900 adults and just over 200 children, with exclusive use of the entire site, every hall and every square metre outdoors.

What 1,100 guests actually means

52 beer-garden sets. 29 parasols. 12 lounges. 25 deck chairs. Two outdoor bars and a pavilion bar. Stage 1 alone held 98 chairs and 14 tables. Around it, 40 barriers to give the grounds a clean edge.

On top of that, close to a dozen trades had to mesh: catering, event technology, a dedicated power distribution, medical cover, security, furniture, decor and half a dozen programme elements. Coordinated through one point of contact. Billed on one invoice.

11am: everything at once

Every station opened simultaneously at 11am, the welcome followed at noon, then food, live music and a DJ into the late afternoon. It ended at 5pm. At 7pm the shuttle pulled in to take guests on to the Sea You festival, while teardown was already under way here.

The part that really carries an event like this is rarely the official one: a bouncy castle, a shooting wall, face painting, a games station, an arcade and a dedicated kids' bar. A red carpet, a photo wall, a photo caravan. A popcorn machine.

The point

"Up to 5,000 guests" is easy to put on a website. This Saturday shows what it looks like in practice: book the whole building along with the outdoor areas and capacity stops being the discussion. Only the layout is.

And the question that comes up in almost every company party enquiry, whether a place that normally houses film productions also works for families with small children, answered itself that day.
